Kirsty's Kitchen

Free-from chilled ready meals brand Kirsty’s has added a kids range to its menu.

Kids’ Kitchen, rolling into Asda from 22 September, comprises eight dishes aimed at children aged two to nine years old: beef lasagne with a bolognese sauce, cottage pie with sweet potato mash, chicken korma with brown rice, sausage casserole with root vegetables, salmon & cod pie with sweet potato mash, lentil & butternut squash pie with sweet potato mash, Moroccan chicken with quinoa, brown rice & lentils, and Caribbean chicken with brown rice (rsp: £1.95/250g).

In line with the brand’s existing range of ‘adult’ meals, the recipes are gluten, wheat and dairy free and contain no added sugar. The range is being pitched as a nutritious option that is also low in calories, fat and salt, with each meal providing at least one of the recommended 5 a day.

The meals, which join Kirsty’s existing seven-strong ready meals range on shelf, would tap a “distinct lack” of free-from options for children, said founder Kirsty Henshaw, adding the move into kids meals was a natural progression for the brand.

An additional three recipes would be added to the original line next month, she said.

Henshaw launched Kirsty’s in 2012 following a successful pitch on Dragons’ Den, where the entrepreneur secured backing from Peter Jones and Duncan Bannatyne.
