Garlic Aioli & Rosemary Waffle Fries will roll into Sainsbury’s on 27 March (rsp: £2.20)

Leon is launching its “famous” waffle fries into Sainsbury’s along with a duo of “BBQ companions”.

The healthy fast food chain had “taken its classic waffle fries and tumbled them in a delicious new seasoning lightly infused with garlic and a hint of rosemary”, it said.

As the restaurant version was served with an aioli dipping sauce, the frozen NPD included aioli seasoning “to further infuse the fries with garlicky deliciousness”, the brand added.

Billed as offering “a uniquely Mediterranean-style flavour”, they will roll into Sainsbury’s freezers on 27 March (rsp: £2.20).

Two side salads – Aioli Potato Salad and Love Burger Slaw – will also roll out.

Billed as “the perfect accompaniment to classic BBQ flavours”, they will hit shelves at Sainsbury’s on 26 April.

The innovations underscored “a clear move to summery flavours and dishes” that were “made for sharing and enjoying as sides at a barbecue”, said Leon.

It comes as the brand has spent recent months making concerted efforts to expand its grocery offering.

Last September, for example, it launched a range of “plant-rich” soups and salads into the retailer in a bid to lure in health-conscious home workers.

In May, it launched a trio of organic coffees into Sainsbury’s.

As reported by The Grocer last month, Leon also looks set to make a surprise move into beauty products, supplements and confectionery.

It has applied to register its brand name as a trademark with the International Property Office under class 3, covering beauty products; class 5, accounting for dietary, nutritional and medicated supplements; and class 30, covering confectionery.
