Shoppers were seeking ‘more choice when it comes to vegan party food’, said the brand’s co-founder David Knibbs

The Tofoo Co has boosted its frozen range with a new BBQ Tofu Popcorn.

The NPD combines the brand’s tofu with a barbecue flavoured crumb, and can be cooked from frozen in 12 minutes.

Shoppers were seeking “more choice when it comes to vegan party food”, said the brand’s co-founder David Knibbs, adding the launch would offer “a tasty alternative to the classic popcorn chicken”.

The launch marks the latest in a series of less traditional tofu launches from the brand.

In March, for instance, it partnered with spicy sauce staple Flying Goose to launch a range of sriracha tofu blocks.

Prior to that, in December 2021, it unveiled a duo of frozen ‘straight to wok’ tofu cubes coated in cornflour to give them a better crunch when fried.

In 2020, the brand embarked on a major expansion of its production capabilities, ramping up its capacity by 70% with the addition of a new soy milk cooker it imported from Japan.
