Aldi has revealed a record Christmas performance as millions of shoppers flocked to the discounter in search of value over the festive period.
Sales at the chain increased 3% year on year to £1.7bn in the four weeks to Christmas Eve, with consumers spending £500m in the week leading up to Christmas, a rise of more than 5% versus the same period in 2024. The business did not reveal like-for-like sales figures.
Aldi handled more than 57 million transactions over the four-week period to 24 December, its highest-ever figure, with Monday 22 December being the busiest trading day.
Aldi said price had been the biggest priority for shoppers in 2025, with customers seeking ways to celebrate on a budget.
Ahead of the big day, Aldi joined the festive veg price wars as it committed to beating rivals on the price of a traditional Christmas dinner, matching Lidl by offering a festive feast for eight at £11.85.
Aldi added it experienced “strong” demand for fresh produce, with sales of meat and vegetables up as the retailer sold 56 million potatoes, 37 million carrots and half a million turkeys.
Demand for its Specially Selected premium own-label range also increased by more than 12% over the period.
Popular products included own-label wagyu fat roast potatoes, double-wrapped pigs in blankets, and white chocolate ganache pinecones.
Shoppers also celebrated with more than 5.5 million bottles of sparkling wine over Christmas.
UK CEO Giles Hurley said: “This Christmas proved once again that a great-quality Christmas can still be affordable.
“We delivered a Christmas without compromise, offering customers award-winning British products at unbeatable prices. We’re grateful more people than ever chose Aldi for their Christmas shop and trusted us to deliver both quality and value during what remains a challenging time for many.
“I’m immensely proud of our amazing colleagues who, once again, went above and beyond to deliver a wonderful Christmas for our customers.
“As we move into 2026, our focus remains unchanged – keeping prices low and quality high, so that every household in Britain can enjoy amazing food all year round.”
Aldi’s Christmas results echo the record-breaking Christmas announced by Lidl on Friday, with the rival discounter reporting sales of more than £1bn in the four weeks.
