Aldi is extending a freeze on baby formula prices until summer 2026, following the government’s announcement of reforms to help families with the cost of living.
The government yesterday said it would encourage retailers to voluntarily implement recommendations of a CMA review earlier this year aimed at improving information for parents choosing infant formula.
Supermarkets will also get updated guidance confirming they can offer loyalty scheme discounts on infant formula under the measures. It comes ahead of the release of the government’s child poverty strategy later this week.
The measures are aimed at helping parents understand that all infant formula sold in the UK must meet the same nutritional standards, after the CMA estimated families could save more than £500 a year by switching to less expensive products.
Aldi said it would keep its Mamia First Infant Formula at £6.99 into next year, having previously frozen the price until the end of 2025. It is a saving of around £5 compared with the price of formula elsewhere, according to the discounter.
“Our priority is, and will remain, supporting families with access to trusted, nutritious options they can rely on,” said Aldi chief commercial officer Julie Ashfield.
“That is why we’re backing the government’s mission to make infant formula more affordable and will be extending our price freeze on baby formula until the end of 2026.”
