The brewer has halted beer orders in Japan

Asahi Group Holdings has confirmed it has suffered a cyberattack in Japan, resulting in a “system failure”.

In a statement, the brewer said there had been “no confirmed leakage of personal information or customer data to external parties” as a result of the attack.

However, it had temporarily suspended all beer orders and shipping operations in Japan, as well as all call centre operations, it said.

“We are actively investigating the cause and working to restore operations. However, there is currently no estimated timeline for recovery,” the supplier said. “The system failure is limited to our operations within Japan.

“We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused to our customers and business partners.”

Asahi is the latest in a slew of fmcg companies and retailers to have reported cyberattacks this year.

Both the Co-op Group and M&S have suffered major attacks in 2025, with Co-op last week reporting it expected a £120m hit to profits after hackers forced the retailer to shut down parts of its supply chain and logistics network.

M&S, meanwhile, was forced to pause online orders for seven weeks after hackers struck over the Easter bank holiday weekend.

In drinks, both dairy giant Arla Foods and German business Oettinger have also been hit by incidents this year.
