Asda Armed Forces support

Asda has unveiled a series of policy enhancements designed to better support colleagues who serve, have served, or contribute through cadet organisations.

Announced ahead of Armed Forces Day (27 June), the supermarket will be increasing its provision for reservists, introducing 10 days of paid leave plus a further five days of unpaid leave annually.

The move was designed to give colleagues greater flexibility to balance military commitments with their roles in-store and across the business, Asda said.

The changes, which will come into effect in the coming weeks, also include enhanced support for cadet force volunteers. Asda will introduce an additional five days of volunteer leave for colleagues involved in youth development programmes.

The retailer will also introduce a voluntary system enabling colleagues to share their ex-military status.

Asda has partnered with the Armed Forces Covenant since 2014 and holds a Silver Award under the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme.

“Colleagues from the Armed Forces community bring a wealth of valuable skills, experience and leadership that make a real difference across our business,” said Asda chief people officer James Goodman.

“We’re proud to stand behind those who serve or have served, and these enhanced policies are about making sure we better support members of the Armed Forces community”.
