Booths’ succession planning is underway, after the sixth generation of the Booths family joined the northern supermarket.
Emma Booth has joined as category development manager for gifting & special occasions. She joined from Amazon, where she had spent the past seven years, working in logistics and supply chain, prior to a spell as marketing manager for retail and online food & drink.
Booth, the daughter of executive chairman Edwin Booth, is the first female member of the Booth family to join the supermarket since it was founded 178 years ago.
Alongside her role in gifting – which is a “growth area” for Booths – Booth will spend time working in the “key operating areas” of the business, “to build a complete understanding of the Booths business dynamics”, under managing director Nigel Murray.
She has previously spent time working on the shop floor as a 16-year-old before attending the University of Leeds Business School. She has been working with the business for the past year on a project reviewing “all aspects of the Booths brand”.
“I am extremely proud that Emma has chosen to join Booths after gaining a wealth of experience at Amazon,” Edwin Booth said.
“Never a moment goes by without a conversation about how positive the future is for the business, and I am deeply proud that strong family succession is underway at Booths.”
Booth had previously expressed his hopes that one of his daughters would join the business, telling The Guardian in 2006 that he hoped to “break tradition” by handing it on to his daughter.
She joins the Preston headquartered Booths as it looks to build on what were “solid” annual results in 2024, despite the challenges of high inflation and the cost of living crisis.
The business is midway through a programme to modernise all of its core IT systems, and is investing into its manufacturing supply chain to move more own-label production in house.
Last month, the retailer launched loyalty pricing for Booths Card holders across all of its 26 stores.
