Co-op is extending its online delivery hours for England’s quarter-final clash against Norway tomorrow night, as it prepares for its biggest day of beer sales.

The extended service will be available from 130 stores up until 1am, through its partners Just Eat, Uber Eats, and Deliveroo, as well as its own online shop.

Co-op said it anticipated a record-breaking day of beer, lager and cider sales for the past year, with research commissioned by Co-op Insurance showing 69% of England fans will be watching the match at home.

Sales are expected to be almost 50% higher than the previous weekend, and 20% ahead of the current busiest day this year, when England took on Panama on 27 June, according to the convenience retailer.

Co-op’s barbecue food sales are also expected to soar this weekend, with Co-op British burger and British kebab sales predicted to increase by 133% and 320% respectively on Saturday compared to the previous week. Co-op British sausage sales are also expected to increase by 35%.

“As a convenience retailer, the summer is our busiest time and with England’s big game on Saturday along with soaring temperatures, we’ve stocked our shelves and are ready for what we expect to be our biggest day for beer, lager and cider sales,” said Co-op operations director Kate McCrae.

Boots has also extended on-demand delivery hours until midnight from 25 stores to serve football fans staying up late for World Cup matches, while Waitrose announced last month it would be extending its on-demand delivery hours for the rest of the World Cup, having witnessed a major spike in demand ahead of England and Scotland matches.
