CoffeeB is to launch its no-capsule Cosmos machine and compostable coffee balls in the UK and Ireland.
The brand promises to deliver “all the convenience of traditional pod-based systems, without the aluminium or plastic capsule”.
In place of single-use coffee capsules, CoffeeB’s Cosmos machine uses a coffee ball consisting of a small sphere of compressed roast and ground coffee. The sphere is protected by a “natural plant-based coating” made from seaweed.
Once the coffee is made, shoppers are able to simply empty the coffee grounds into their food waste bin.
The brand will roll out initially via DTC, with the Cosmos machine carrying an rsp of £199, and a pack of 45 coffee balls costing £19.34.

However, CoffeeB was also “in talks with major retailers” about listing its products in the UK, the brand added.
CoffeeB is already available in European markets including Switzerland and Germany, where it has sold 650,000 machines and 200 million coffee balls since 2022.
“After witnessing CoffeeB’s Swiss success and experiencing first-hand just how tedious pod recycling really is, the opportunity to bring the system to the UK and Ireland was impossible to ignore,” said James Newitt, CCO and co-founder at CoffeeB UK.
CoffeeB UK CEO and co-founder Steven Phelps added: “Staying relevant to how people want their coffee is essential for producers and retailers. Packaging-free, single-serve coffee is the future for everyone who loves coffee and loves the planet.”
In support of its UK launch, CoffeeB is to act as the VIP sponsor of the BBC Good Food show from 18 to 21 June.
It has also partnered with the Pub in the Park festival as well as selected chefs and influencers.
