nHealth and practicality are the key drivers for consumptionCabbage consumption consistent throughout yearThere is no seasonality in the consumption of cabbage, with levels during summer and winter remaining consistent. In the latest year the consumption of cabbage has increased by 2.1%.
The core consumers of cabbage are adults aged 45-64. Accounting for 31%, they also over-index on their consumption of cabbage versus total vegetables.
This consumer group is helping to drive the overall increased levels of consumption, although kids aged 0-5 and 11-16 are also showing good levels of growth (although they under-index on cabbage versus other vegetables consumed).
Has all the media focus on health and healthy eating had an effect, with mums and dads wanting their kids to consume more fruit and vegetables and less processed offerings? Health as a motivation for children’s eating habits has increased from a 17% share of all occasions to a 19% share over the past year.
The evening meal is the main occasion for the consumption of cabbage, accounting for 54% of all consumption. This is also the only occasion with increased consumption (+5%).
In terms of complementary foods, more than half of all cabbage occasions are with potatoes and one quarter are with gravy. Consumption levels peak on a Sunday.
