Tesco has listed more than 80 new ice cream and frozen dessert products as part of a major shake-up of its freezer aisles.
It has become the first UK supermarket to list Fruit Riot, a US brand that combines frozen fruit with lemon juice and candy flavourings. The Grocer understands Fruit Riot’s snacks are being made in the UK by Matthew and Ella Mills’ business M&E Mills Chilled Manufacturing.
Tesco lists Fruit Riot’s Crunchy Candy Grapes, Sour Grapes Mix Candy and Sour Mango Mix Candy (rsp: £5.95/200g).
Other Tesco exclusives include Nutella Chocolate & Hazelnut Ring Donuts (rsp: £4.50/4x60g), Trü Frü White & Dark Chocolate Strawberries (rsp: £6.10/200g) and Little Moons Refreshos Lemon & Elderflower (rsp: £5/6x30g).
Another new product, which is not exclusive to Tesco but is included in the range review, is a bite-sized format for Solero, Bon Bons.
Available in Exotic and Strawberry, Bon Bons (rsp: £4/12x15g) combine vanilla ice cream and tangy fruit sauce, wrapped in a fruit flavoured coating. The coating had been “expertly developed so it doesn’t melt in the hand”, said Solero owner The Magnum Ice Cream Company.
Solero Minis (rsp: £4/6x50ml), available in a mixed pack of Solero Exotic and Berry Bliss, are also in Tesco.
In own label, Tesco has added seven frozen desserts and nine ice creams. They include the likes of Finest Raspberry & Limoncello Vertical Roulade (£9/610g), Finest Raspberry Tarts (£4.50/2x110g), Finest Chocolate & Coffee Cakes (£6/4x65g) and Double Dipped Hazelnut & White Chocolate Ice Creams (£3.75/3x70g).
More frozen
The desserts shake-up coincides with the addition of 11 new Firepit BBQ lines, a Finest frozen sausage range, an overhauled ready to cook Finest frozen fish range and a range of frozen herbs.
“After the biggest change to our frozen aisle in nearly a decade last year, we’re excited to further bolster our range with more than 140 new and improved products for summer,” said Naomi Kasolowsky, frozen category director at Tesco.
“Frozen offers fantastic quality, it’s super convenient and great value.
“We know our customers will love our summer range, full of exciting BBQ products, quick and delicious fish dishes, decadent desserts and ice cream with exciting new brands.”
