Receivers at Irish-based food manufacturer Hibernia Foods have shut its frozen food plant in Bridlington, Yorkshire, with the loss of 500 jobs, after talks faltered for the sale of the business.
However, receivers KPMG said Hibernia’s frozen desserts business at Stockton-on-Tees - with 400 employees - has been sold to Country Style Foods, a Leeds-based manufacturer of frozen foods.
Hibernia, which produced Sara Lee frozen desserts, Mr Brains faggots, Sara Lee bakery goods and Entenmann’s chilled desserts, plus own label goods for UK supermarkets, was put into receivership in October after it defaulted on a loan repayment.
