Holland & Barrett group CEO Anthony Houghton has joined the Retail Trust as a non-executive director and trustee.

Houghton will sit on the retail charity’s board of trustees, which is chaired by former Matalan and Littlewoods CEO Alistair McGeorge, as it continues its work supporting retail workers across the sector.

“It’s a privilege to join the Retail Trust as a Non-Executive Director and Trustee, supporting its vital mission to champion the health, wellbeing and development of people working across the retail sector,” Houghton said.

“At Holland & Barrett, caring for the welfare and safety of our colleagues is in our DNA; they’re the driving force behind everything we do, supporting our customers and communities every day.

“As a business that continues to invest in local jobs and the high street, we know that a thriving retail sector depends on creating environments where people feel safe, supported and respected at work. By working with the Retail Trust, I’m proud to help strengthen the support available to everyone in retail and stand alongside others in building a healthier, more resilient industry for the future.”

It follows Houghton’s promotion to Holland & Barrett Group CEO in August, as part of a restructure aiming to accelerate H&B’s next stage of growth. He first joined the health and wellness retailer in 2018 from Wilko, and was promoted to lead its UK business as CEO in 2024.

The Retail Trust has worked with Holland & Barrett since 2023, providing a range of support including counselling and access to a virtual GP service. It includes, as of this month, the roll out of specialist online training to help shop workers deal with the scourge of record level s of antisocial behaviour and abuse.

“Anthony has been such a strong supporter and partner of the Retail Trust and its work to support the wellbeing of everyone at Holland & Barrett over the last two years, so we are incredibly grateful that he is now joining our charity as a Non-Executive Director and Trustee,” said Chris Brook-Carter, Retail Trust chief executive.

“All our trustees play a crucial role in ensuring the Retail Trust continues to meet the needs of the retail workforce and we know that Anthony has exactly the right experience and skills to help drive this work forward for the benefit of the industry as a whole.”
