Ikea has expanded its signature meatballs offering with the launch of its first Meatball Sub.

Priced from 95p, the sub will roll out in stores nationwide across the retailer’s Swedish Deli, Swedish Bistro and Swedish Bite food outlets. It will be available from today (9 March) on National Meatball Day until 30 April 2026.

It features the retailer’s meatballs served on a soft bread bun, layered with pickled gherkins and topped with lingonberry jam.

The launch comes as Google searches for “sandwiches” have risen 10% over the past year, alongside a surge in “meatball marinara” (80%), “Swedish meatballs” (30%), and “Ikea food” (110%).

“We know how much our customers love our meatballs, and after celebrating their 40th birthday in December, we could think of no better way to reinvent them for the modern palette this National Meatball Day,” said Ikea UK and Ireland food manager Karen Hughes.

“By bringing together bold Swedish flavours – savoury meatballs, lingonberry and gherkins – in a sub, we’re making it even easier to enjoy a taste of Sweden on the go, at a price tag that stays true to Ikea.”
