Lidl is set to open 19 stores in eight weeks, creating 640 jobs across the UK.
The discounter, which has been the fastest-growing store-based supermarket for more than two years [Worldpanel], is also investing £43m in refurbishing 70 existing stores.
The openings will bring new Lidl supermarkets to locations including Basildon, Chester and Reading. Newly opened stores will offer complimentary food sampling and special prizes for users of the Lidl Plus loyalty app.
Stores in line for refurbishment are spread from Dundee to the Isle of Wight, where shoppers can expect new self-checkouts and larger freezers stocked with more choices.
