M&S has doubled its ‘Only… ingredients’ range, with the launch of 12 new lines including sausages, chipolatas, burgers, meatballs, yoghurts, porridge and condiments.
The range has gained Only 6 Ingredients Heritage Gold Pork Sausages, Only 6 Ingredients Heritage Gold Pork Chipolatas, Only 3 Ingredients British Beef Burgers, and Only 3 Ingredients British Beef Meatballs. They are the first meat products in the range, which had its initial launch last year with cereals and bread rolls.
Other new additions for 2026 are Only 3 Ingredients Steel Cut Porridge, Only 5 Ingredients Yogurt in raspberry and rhubarb flavours, Only 6 Ingredients Olive Oil Mayonnaise, Only 8 Ingredients Tomato Ketchup and soon-to-launch Only 7 Ingredients Baked Beans.
The new lines claim the same number of ingredients on the front of pack as they do in the legal ingredients declaration on the back, in contrast with some earlier launches in the range. The Only 5 Ingredients Dark Chocolate & Coconut Date Bar, launched last April, counted dark chocolate as a single ingredient on the front of pack but on the back listed the further ingredients making up the compound.
In October, the Real Bread Campaign said a Trading Standards authority had told it M&S was “reviewing” labelling claims for the range, after the campaign complained about Only 5 Ingredients Rolls having a “numerical mismatch between the legal declaration of ingredients on the back and marketing claim on the front”.
The six ingredients in the sausages and chipolatas make a list far shorter than found on standard alternatives from M&S. Its British Outdoor-Bred Pork Butchers Sausages, for example, list more than 20 ingredients.
However, with preservatives among the ingredients absent, the new meat lines have a shorter shelf life. Examples found on a store visit on 5 January had a use by date of 8 January, while alternatives were good until 13 January.
The packaging also advises that the new sausages and chipolatas are not suitable for freezing and once opened should be used immediately.
The new ‘Only… ingredients’ lines are part of a wider M&S launch of new health ranges for January, which also includes salads, snacks and meals aimed at people on weight loss jabs.
