M&S is opening its first two airside stores, at Heathrow terminal 5, bringing its food on the move and gifting ranges to travellers.

The first opened at Gate A today – the first day of school summer holidays – and the second is set to open later this week at Gate B.

The store at Gate A is selling food on the move and the Gate B one will offer M&S’s gifting range.

The two 1,500 sq ft stores are creating 50 jobs and will trade from the first to last flight each day, according to M&S.

M&S already has 15 landside airport stores across the UK and Europe. It said the two new stores would help it bring its ranges to Heathrow’s 200,000 daily travellers.

“Our stores programme is focused on making sure we have the right stores in the right place with the right space, whether these are full-line, food halls or convenience stores,” said M&S Food MD Alex Freudmann.

“Terminal 5 is the UK’s busiest terminal, making it the perfect location to debut our airside offer.

“This launch builds on the success of our well-established landside airport stores across the UK and allows us to serve customers even closer to their departure gates. Whether travellers are looking for breakfast, lunch or dinner, or a British gift to take home, we’re aiming to bring some M&S magic to their journey through Heathrow.”

Heathrow retail director Fraser Brown said: “This partnership reflects our ambition to make every journey better by offering passengers more choice, quality and convenience at every stage of their trip.

“M&S is a much-loved British brand, and we are confident the new stores will prove popular with passengers passing through Terminal 5 this summer.”
