M&S is recalling a batch of Truffle Gouda in Northern Ireland due to the presence of listeria monocytogenes.

Symptoms of listeria can be similar to flu, including high temperature, muscle ache or pain, chills, feeling or being sick and diarrhoea. In rare cases the infection can cause serious complications such as meningitis.

The FSA has advised that some people are more vulnerable to listeria infections, including those over 65 years of age, pregnant women and their unborn babies, babies less than one month old and people with weakened immune systems.

The recall affects 150g packs with a best before date of 9 October 2026 and the product code 29424887.

An M&S customer notice says the recall is being made “in the abundance of caution”.

It tells shoppers: “Please do not consume this product. Any customers in possession of this product can return it to their nearest store where a full refund will be given.”

The notice adds: “Customer safety is of paramount importance to M&S and we take food safety extremely seriously.”

Analysis of FSA allergy alerts by The Grocer in May found the number of UK food recalls rose from 115 in 2024 to 141 in 2025. Aldi and Lidl had issued the highest number, between them accounting for 13% of products pulled from shelves last year.
