Morrisons has poached Asda‘s online trading director Emma Pacey to become its new trading director for general merchandise.

Pacey has been with Asda for nearly 20 years and previously held the role of senior director of retail operations.

She also worked at the helm of Asda’s e-commerce and customer proposition operations.

The move coincides with Matt McLellan also joining Morrisons from Asda in the newly created role of group data and media director.

McLellan joined Asda in 2020 after previous roles at Tesco and Dunnhumby. He was responsible for the design and launch of its loyalty proposition and for developing a wide range of high-profile customer programmes and initiatives.

Morrisons said Pacey had a “strong background in buying, category strategy and leading high-performing teams”.

“Emma is known for delivering market share gains, supplier-led innovation and customer-focused offers, particularly across general merchandise,” a Morrisons spokesman added.

“She combines deep commercial know-how with a real passion for delivering for customers, and we’re excited to have her on board as we continue to build momentum across the business.”

Morrisons has also announced the appointment of Tim Conder as its new commercial director for non-food and frozen.

Conder has held senior roles at Tesco across BWS, ambient grocery and fresh foods, before joining Aldi, where he was group buying director for ambient foods.

Most recently he was managing director of a food manufacturing business specialising in bakery and free-from.

“Tim brings with him a wealth of experience across both retail and manufacturing,” said the spokesman.

“With such a strong commercial and category background, Tim will play an important role in supporting the next phase of our Morrisons strategy, helping us build stronger ranges, deliver great value for customers, and continue improving availability and innovation across our ambient and non-food categories.”
