Tesco has become the first supermarket to restock the wildly popular Patrón XO Cafe coffee-infused tequila liqueur.
Four years after Patrón XO Cafe was discontinued in the UK, shoppers can now once again buy the tipple in Tesco stores and online (rsp: £46/70cl).
Patrón tequila brand owner Bacardí relaunched XO Cafe on a limited basis in the UK on-trade last autumn.
Billed as “an extraordinary blend of ultra-premium Patrón Silver tequila and the pure, natural essence of fine coffee,” Patrón XO Cafe was so popular that disgruntled shoppers started an online petition urging Bacardí not to discontinue the drink in 2021.
At the time, Bacardí said agave shortages that required the spirits giant to prioritise other variants in the Patrón roster had necessitated the move.
However, with shortages having abated and the tequila trend cooling in the US, XO Cafe has made a comeback.
The news will be unwelcome to rival tequila brands such as Cazcabel and Vivir, which have launched coffee-infused tequila drinks in recent years to fill the gap left by Patrón XO Cafe.
The Grocer has approached Bacardí for comment.
