Poundland has cut about a dozen director roles in a leadership restructure, with head of digital and loyalty Emma Collins among those to leave.
Collins led the launch of Poundland Perks, the variety discounter’s first loyalty app, which rolled out across the UK last year.
Digital director Tom Hill is also among those to have left earlier this month, along with head of labour and productivity Steve Young and head of retail excellence Pete Wyatt.
The shake-up is part of the turnaround efforts of the retailer’s MD Barry Williams, who The Grocer revealed in January had returned to Poundland. Williams previously served as Poundland MD from 2017 until 2023, when he took the role of MD of Pepco, its sister retailer in Europe.
Poundland: who would buy it and what would they do?
Commenting on the leadership restructure to the Retail Gazette, a Poundland spokesman said: “Around a dozen individuals left the business in early April as Barry put in place a smaller leadership team. It goes without saying that we wish those who left us well.”
Williams’ new position at Poundland was made permanent in March, on the same day owner Pepco Group confirmed the UK discount chain was up for sale after seeing like-for-like sales decline for three consecutive quarters.
Sky News reported last week that Bensons for Beds owner Alter was among the suitors circling the variety discounter.
