Food & Drink Expo will play host to a wide number of regional food groups that will be representing many of the UK’s best food and drink producers. And this year there is set to be an even bigger turnout of companies than at previous events.
Companies from across the whole of Britain will be represented by a number of pavilions: East Midlands Fine Foods, Heart of England Fine Foods, Northumbria Larder, North West Fine Foods, Yorkshire & Humber Regional Food Group, Taste of Anglia, South West England and Taste of the West, The Welsh Development Agency and Scottish Development International.
Once again Food from Britain will be promoting the range and diversity of British regional food and drink through its pavilion, which will encompass all the regional pavilions and ensure that the best selection of products is on show. In addition, it will have its own stand giving companies advice on how to generate both UK and international business, as well as hosting the International Buyers’ Lounge, which enables buyers to meet and do business with
producers at the show.
Kirsty Grieve, regional food and drink manager at Food from Britain, says: “Food from Britain’s Defra-funded campaign is helping to promote the UK’s regional food and drink industry to both consumer and trade audiences. Through our presence at Food & Drink Expo, we hope to raise awareness and commitment among UK and international buyers.”
Food from Britain will also present findings from research carried out by the IGD into consumer demand for regional food and drink, which will be presented on Tuesday, March 21, as part of its Regional & Local Food Opportunity talks in the Briefing Theatre. The talks will also be backed by an informal wine tasting, headed up by Julia Trustram Eve, from the English Wine Producers, who will demonstrate that you don’t have to look to far-flung places to source good wines.
Visitors to individual pavilions can sample a vast array of local and unusual products, such as Aconbury Sprouts’ Sango Radish sprouts and snow pea shoots under the Heart of England banner. Some of the other speciality producers include Columbine Cakes, with its Four Anjels biscuit range, Tyrrell’s Potato Chips, Dukeshill Ham and Frank’s Luxury Biscuits.
Flying the flag for the south west, 20 companies are attending as part of the South West Food & Drink pavilion, among them Brittons of Devon, which will be showcasing its range of handmade pasties and pies, and Callestick Farm and Kelly’s of Bodmin, both of which will be showing their Cornish ice cream.
From the north of England, Yorkshire & Humber Regional Food Group are coming together under the Deliciously Yorkshire banner, launched at Food & Drink Expo in 2004. A record 25 of Yorkshire’s finest food producers will be on display under the banner, with 14 newcomers to the show. These include first-time exhibitor Holme Farmed Venison and children’s ready meals producer Wensleydale Foods, which will be launching its Betty Guy’s Little Pies range of foods nationally at the exhibition.
Welsh companies will also be out in force, including Radnor Hills Mineral Water, which will be displaying its new GI Fruitades range as well as its waters. Sub Zero Ice Cream, The Welsh Sausage Company and Knobbly Carrot Food will also be demonstrating recent NPD.
