New door supervisors face toughened identity checks in a bid by the Security Industry Association (SIA) to combat identity fraud.

All applicants registering for the SIA scheme will in future be required to produce documents showing their current address and date of birth from a revised list of approved identity documents.

The SIA says the revised measures, to be introduced on 1 October, will help stamp out identity fraud and streamline the application process.

It says there is concern about identity fraud in the registration system, following the introduction of new laws requiring all door supervisors to register for the SIA qualification training scheme.

"Most industries are prone to risks from people sending in false documents, so we feel this revised system will be more consistent and ensure only genuine applicants get through," said a spokesperson.

Details of the revised documents list are on the SIA website, www.the-sia.org.uk, or call 08702 430100.
