A new range claiming to be the first natural skincare range developed just for teenagers has been launched. Young & Pure includes Refreshing Body & Hair Wash, Invigorating Face Cleanser and a new Moisturising Face Cream.

The products, which are priced between £3.50 and £4.99, use natural ingredients such as aloe vera, coconut oil and mandarin.

Young & Pure founder Lianne Miller says they are free from petrochemicals and synthetic ingredients such as parabens and sodium laureth sulphate (SLS), which can cause allergic reactions and have also been linked to breast cancer.

She developed the concept after becoming concerned about the use of synthetic ingredients in many skin creams when her son was diagnosed with cancer at the age of two.

"A lot of teens use their parents' potions but younger skin has smaller pores so heavier creams clog them up," she said. "This range is very light and designed to deal with oilier skin."

The idea of the product was to encourage teenagers to take responsibility for looking after their bodies, she said. The products would also make parents feel safe about their children's skincare and cosmetics.

Miller plans to launch a range for teenage boys later this year, which will include a body & hair wash and a cream for after shaving, all in sporty packaging.

Young & Pure products, with the strapline 'Simply Growing Up', are sold in the health food sector and beauty spas, but Miller is also targeting the multiples.

Recent activity in skincare has been concentrated at the organic end, with launches such as Bentley Organic hitting the UK market via the multiples. Miller plans a Young & Pure organic range later this year.
