Southern Co-op has expanded its partnership with Gander to eight more franchise stores and integrated the food clearance app with Snappy Shopper.
The society began rolling out Gander across the franchise estate in September, with 12 stores now live overall. The newest stores to join are operated by Jala Retail.
In May, Southern Co-op expanded the partnership by linking Gander with Snappy Shopper, meaning a franchisee’s reduced-to-clear items could be listed on the home delivery platform.
The Gander app works by integrating with a retailer’s point of sale system so reduced items are automatically uploaded in real time, aiming to increase visibility and accelerating sell-through.
The platform also gives the customer full visibility of reduced priced goods, allowing them to search by location, favourite stores, reduction, food type and even dietary preferences.
Gander is currently not part of Southern Co-op’s 173 company-owned stores. The society’s franchise estate consists of 77 stores.
“We’re pleased to be working with Gander across our Welcome franchise stores, supporting our franchise partners to reduce food waste while strengthening our home delivery offering,” said a Southern Co-op spokeswoman.
The partnership expansion comes as Southern Co-op completed the transfer of engagements into Co-op Group last month, marking a “significant transaction milestone”.
It transferred to a wholly owned subsidiary of Co-op Group called Siena Co-op, meaning Southern Co-op is now legally part of the wider Co-op Group structure. It follows Southern Co-op members approving the merger in May.
