The advert creative features a man being hit by a wrecking ball.

Tango has bought back its ‘You Know When You’ve Been Tango’d’ tagline for the first time in over two decades.

The ‘Wrecking Ball of Tango’ campaign marks the return of the Tango slogan first used to advertise the drink in the 1990s. It will be backed by a £2.7m media push this summer.

It will run from 29 June across video on demand, online video, YouTube, OOH, PR and social. Creative for Tango Orange and Apple Zero’d will feature across VOD, with Cherry Zero’d also appearing across OOH.

The ‘You Know When You’ve Been Tango’d’ strapline had been “reimagined for a new generation of consumers”, said Tango.

In place of an orange man sneaking up on and slapping a Tango drinker – as was the case in Tango advertisements from the 1990s – the new advert features a man being hit in the face by a wrecking ball.

A wrecking ball also features across OOH creative to reinforce the idea that the first taste of Tango is “like being hit with a wrecking ball of tang”, according to the brand.

“Tango has always been known for its bold personality and disruptive advertising, so we’re excited to bring back ‘You Know When You’ve Been Tango’d’ with a fresh new campaign for today’s consumers,” said David Laidler, brand director of carbonates at Tango supplier Carlsberg Britvic. “It’s an iconic line that still resonates decades on, capturing the unmistakably intense Tango taste in 2026.

“The ‘Wrecking Ball of Tang’ campaign dramatises the unmistakable hit of flavour that comes with the first sip of Tango – and with significant media investment across summer and beyond, it gives retailers a strong opportunity to tap into the buzz and drive excitement in fixture.”

It comes after sales of Tango climbed by £5.6m to £114.5m last year, on volumes up 3.3% [NIQ 52 w/e 6 September 2025].
