Tesco has opened a new 63,000 sq ft store in Streatham as part of a major £27m regeneration scheme.
The Tesco Streatham Hub project, jointly funded by the retailer and Lambeth Council, also includes a leisure centre boasting an ice rink built above a swimming pool.
The project, which will eventually also include 250 new homes, a new bus interchange and create 1,000 new jobs, has been in construction since August 2011.
“It has been a triumph of design and construction,” said council leader Lib Peck. “It’s created hundreds of homes and jobs too but none of it would have been possible without our partnership with Tesco.”
