Cake bar brand Dolcetto is part of Freddi’s portfolio

Valeo Foods Group has acquired Italian sweet bakery manufacturer Freddi Dolciaria for an undisclosed sum, accelerating growth in south-west Europe and strengthening its bakery offer.

Sponge cake specialist Freddi Dolciaria was founded by Luigi Freddi in 1949, and is headquartered in Castiglione delle Stiviere.

It has established a presence in both the Italian retail and international markets, with an annual turnover approaching €20m. It has 48 employees.

The acquisition strengthened Valeo Foods Group’s position in the packaged wafers, cakes, and biscuits category, complementing its existing Balconi business across southern Europe and international markets, it said.

The integration of Freddi was expected to drive “sustainable, profitable growth while enhancing production capacity and operational efficiency”, it added.

It also reinforced Valeo’s continued expansion in the region, following the acquisitions of Balconi in 2015, Val D’Enza in 2017, IDP Pattini in 2023, and Dal Colle in 2025.

“Freddi Dolciaria is a fantastic addition to the Valeo Foods portfolio, which already includes some of Europe’s most established and beloved cakes,” said Valeo Foods Group CEO Ronald Kers.

“Commercially, this move strengthens and broadens our product range, introducing exclusive, global licensing partnerships with leading CPGs and expanding our healthy and free-from offerings,” Kers added.

What’s more, the addition of Freddi’s “well-invested, flexible facility” would support Valeo’s growth plans, he said.
