Belgium is famous for its beer-brewing monks, while here in the UK all we have are those Buckfast brothers.
Until now. A group of Cistercian monks from Leicestershire have made the UK’s first Trappist beer, having won approval from the International Trappist Association earlier this year. Tynt Meadow, a 7.4% abv brew, came about after the monks found dairy farming wasn’t enough to keep their monastery going. They promise their beer isn’t a Belgian copy, telling the Morning Advertiser they did “a lot of highly scientific tasting” as part of the process. Sure, lads.
