Organic cod farmed in the Shetland Islands has triumphed at the 2006 Scottish Food and Drink Excellence Awards.

The “No Catch” Organic Cod, produced by Johnson Seafarms at Vidlin in the north of the Shetland Islands, scooped the supreme award as well as the fish and seafood category of the retail awards and the savoury sector of the food service category.

Other winners at the event, held last night at The Hub, Edinburgh, included The Craigmyle Cheese Company, Island Bakery Organics and Mackie's of Scotland.

Scottish food minister Ross Finnie, who presented the awards, said: “The diversity, quality and innovation of Scottish products mentioned here tonight is a real testament to Scottish companies who have identified new markets and secured clients worldwide.”

The awards are organised and co-sponsored by the Royal Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland and Scottish Food and Drink, in association with Scottish Enterprise, and sponsored by The Grocer.
