A baker’s dozen of Booths’ store managers scaled the heights of the Yorkshire Three Peaks conquering a £5,000 fundraising challenge along the way.
The 13-strong team climbed Pen-y-ghent (691m), Whernside (728m) and Ingleborough (723m) in just 12 hours.
They raised money for two local charities - The Magic of Matilda for six-year-old Matilda Moffatt, who has a life-limiting condition causing severe disabilities, and Donna’s Dream House in Blackpool, which provides holidays for young people with life-threatening illnesses as well as for recently bereaved siblings and relatives.
Booths’ Chorley store manager Megan Helly said the Yorkshire rain played its part in the trip.
“The hardest part of the trek was definitely the last six miles - I had abandoned my waterproofs in a pub, only for it to tip it down constantly for the final stretch.”
The Booths managers met Matilda and her mum, Melanie, to hand over their share of the proceeds - a cheque for £2,796.16
Matilda’s mum said the donation to her fundraising to build a sensory room for her daughter was a surprise.
“It means we have been able to go ahead with a development downstairs in our home and extend the back of the bedroom so that Matilda can live downstairs, making caring for her a lot simpler and more comfortable,” she said.
“Her illness has progressed now so that she cannot walk or talk, and we have been trying to get this all sorted for 18 months. I’ve done the majority of the fundraising by myself so to have the help and support of Booths has been wonderful.”
