Meal replacement brand Huel has appointed Emma Woods as an independent non-executive director.

Woods is a veteran of the food and drink industry. She was the CEO of Wagamama from December 2018 to June 2021, during which time she navigated the company’s acquisition by TRG and the operational shift to a delivery-led business during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Prior to this, Woods held roles as marketing director for both Pizza Express and Unilever.

She is currently non-executive chair of casual dining chain Tortilla, and non-executive director of The Gym Group and Great Portland Estates.

Woods had “significant experience of supporting consumer-focused businesses as they scale and develop their brand presence”, said Huel.

Huel CEO James McMaster said he was “delighted to welcome Emma to Huel, where I know her substantial experience working within strong, brand-led consumer businesses will be of great value to us”.

Woods’ appointment was “another step in building a business with the experience and capabilities to support Huel in reaching its potential as we pursue the next stage of global growth”, he added.

The announcement follows the appointment of Robyn Perriss as a non-executive director in April.

Perriss was CFO of Rightmove for 12 years. She is currently a non-executive director at Dr Martens, Softcat and Next 15 Communications Group.
