Trevor Callander

Trevor Callander has been made sales director for General Mills UK, Ireland & Nordic after 17 years with the business.

Callander had been holding the fort as interim managing director before the arrival of Markus Muehleisen as VP managing director in April.

In his new role as sales director, Callander will be responsible for driving profitable sales growth for the company’s portfolio of brands, which includes Häagen-Dazs, Old El Paso, Green Giant, Betty Crocker, Nature Valley and Jus-Rol. He will also be tasked with developing a best-in-class sales function.

Callander was general manager for General Mills’ Nordic business before being brought back to the UK to become interim MD. He first joined General Mills UK as a key account manager in 1998 after gaining experience at Nestlé Rowntree and George Payne and Co.

In 2004, he was promoted to trade sector manager, where he helped lead the accelerated growth of Old El Paso in the UK. Four years later, he became customer director for Tesco, Somerfield and The Co-op Group.

“Trevor has consistently made an outstanding contribution to the General Mills business in a number of roles and across different territories,” said Muehleisen. “We wish him every success in his new role.”

Callander replaces Fred Lea, who is leaving the business for another role in the food and drink industry. Lea had been with General Mills UK since 2007, initially holding various account management roles within the wholesale, convenience and multiple sectors.

He was promoted to customer director in 2010 to oversee a team of business development managers for Sainsbury’s and Waitrose. He then moved up to UK trading director in 2012, taking on the sales director post in October 2013.
