The former head of L'Oréal UK and Ireland has moved to Boots to take up the second of two new senior trading posts, The Grocer can reveal.

Guy Farmer returned to the UK after moving to the Continent to run L'Oréal's Portugal business, and joined Boots last week. He will share the title of 'director of trading' with Anne Murphy, the former general manager at Birds Eye UK and Ireland, who starts at Boots on 1 October.

In the newly created roles, Farmer will be responsible for beauty, while Murphy is expected to take on responsibility for toiletries, lifestyle and healthcare.

Both Farmer and Murphy will report to Ken Murphy, who was appointed COO with responsibility for trading, brands, supply chain, commercial business development and marketing earlier in the summer.

In other appointment news at Boots, Alison Hands will take up the role of commercial director for Boots Opticians from 1 October, taking over from Helen Miller who is "pursuing other opportunities within the wider Alliance Boots group". Outside the UK, Stephen Leadbeater has been promoted from category head of beauty to commercial director of Boots Ireland. Leadbeater will take over from Andy Atkinson, who has just left the company to take up a new role.

"Stephen has a wealth of experience gained from the various roles he has held within Boots UK and Alliance Boots," said a spokeswoman. Leadbeater will report to Debbie Smith, managing director of Boots Ireland.
