Ian Glen has retired as operations director for Scotmid following a 40-year career in grocery.

Glen was at Scotmid for seven years, overseing its store refit programme, as well as the integration of Botterills.

He spent most of his career at Safeway, joining in 1972 and helping in the conversion of Presto supermarkets into Safeway when Safeway UK was bought by Argyll Foods in 1987. He joined Scotmid when Safeway was acquired by Morrisons.

“What I’ve learnt from my career is you’re only as good as the people around you and have a responsibility to develop, coach and mentor people,” said Glen, whose plans include clay pigeon shooting and traveling.
