Craig Taylor has been appointed as Marks & Spencer’s head of operations, food supply chain, and will start his new role in September.
His recruitment comes as part of a senior management cull and food supply chain revamp to address poor availability.
Taylor will be joining from Asda, where he has worked since 2004, after starting there as a general manager. His current role is senior director, food (north), and he has also been head of food logistics (UK national) and head of distribution, central operations.
Prior to his Asda tenure, he worked at Safeway from 1998 to 2004 in roles such as operations shift manager and fresh warehouse controller.
In his role at M&S, Taylor will report to Syd Reid, supply chain director, and will use his specialities in strategic development, managing large budgets and employee groups, as well as major change management and infrastructure investment programmes.
“Craig is a great hire for us,” said an M&S spokesman. “He has a track record of successfully delivering logistics change programmes and, as we transform our food supply chain, his experience will be invaluable.”
M&S is currently in the midst of both a management reshuffle and a five-year reorganisation, unveiled last November.
Recent departures include its executive director of customer, marketing and M&S.com Patrick Bousquet-Chavanne, head of food Andy Adcock, head of stores and online Laura Wade-Gery and womenswear chief Belinda Earl.
The revamp has also meant the business has been split into two divisions - food and clothing, and home - and has led to the closure of M&S’ Hardwick, Warrington distribution centre, putting 450 jobs at risk, while operations at its Neasden DC have also ceased.
