Bryan Burger, petrol director at Morrisons, retired this week after 17 years with the multiple and about 34 years in the grocery industry.
He will now take an extended break in his native South Africa. When he returns, he may look to take-up non-executive directorships.
Roger Fogg, director of popular and useful services - a newly created role under chief executive David Potts - will take on the extra petrol remit following Burger’s departure.
Burger joined Morrisons in June 2008 as trading manager for dairy and frozen foods, winning promotion to head of dairy, bakery and frozen foods less than a year later.
He became trading director in February 2010, charged with responsibility for bakery, dairy and poultry.
This was followed by various category director roles, before he took charge of petrol in his most recent role last September.
Fogg is a former chief executive of Tesco Mobile who was one of 50 senior and middle management that former Tesco chief executive Philip Clarke canned as part of his plans to inject new digital skills into the business in July 2013.
