Yo CEO Richard Hodgson said a previous trial ‘went incredibly well’

Yo Sushi has netted a deal with Sainsbury’s to stock Yo-branded pre-packed sushi in 350 stores.

The push has been enabled by Yo’s acquisition of Waitrose sushi supplier Taiko Foods in 2018.

“We did a trial and it went incredibly well,” Yo CEO Richard Hodgson told The Grocer. “Assuming it works I would expect to expand distribution.”

Since September it has also been rolling out concessions in Tesco following a successful trial in 2018 and Hodgson is targeting 700 Yo outlets.

“I’m agnostic about route to market. We’re trying to introduce more people to fresh, great quality sushi, whether in our restaurants, at a kiosk or in a fridge.”
