Reckitt Benckiser has been touted as a possible takeover target for US consumer goods giant Procter Gamble. Shares in Reckitt, the maker of Dettol, Vanish and Nurofen, rose sharply yesterday amid speculation the company could be the subject of a 35bn bid.
Reckitt Benckiser has credited new products including Dettol No Touch soap and the wasabi-infused Strepsils Warm for robust sales growth in the past three months.
Growth in developing markets helped Reckitt Benckiser to what the company called a strong year in 2010. The maker of Cillit Bang, Vanish and Dettol said global sales were up by 6% over the year excluding the addition of SSL, which it acquired in November.
