Sainsbury’s staff are to receive a share of £90m – the retailer’s largest ever bonus pot.

Some 134,000 staff across the country will receive the performance-related payout. The bonuses are paid according to profit and corporate sales, as well as individual store availability and customer service targets.

It follows the release of the retailer’s full-year results on Wednesday, in which it reported a 4.6% increase in sales and a 6.2% increase in profits.

“This record bonus pot reflects the success we’ve seen which is down to the hard work and commitment of colleagues across the business,” said CEO Justin King.

“Our colleagues are the face of Sainsbury’s, keeping stores running smoothly and ensuring we help our customers Live Well for Less. So I’m delighted that 134,000 colleagues will share in the well-deserved, record payout.”
