Tesco Beckenham scored fantastically this week, featuring a “spacious and logical” store layout accompanied by “professional and well-mannered staff”. There were attractive and “clearly signposted” offers in “relevant areas”, counters were peopled by “attentive staff” and a large Costa café offered customers a chance to unwind.

Asda Bodmin impressed, with full marks for availability. However, the entrance to the store appeared cluttered and “not particularly attractive”. Items seemed to be scattered with no clear, segregated departments, although the front of the store was “brightened with plants and seasonal lines”.

Morrisons Weymouth offered shoppers a large car park and “beautiful displays of fresh flowers” at its entrance. Shelves were “well stocked” and staff members were readily available. Unfortunately, availability was not impressive, and neither were staff at the kiosk who sold our shopper an incorrect item.

Sainsbury’s Acocks Green maintained a “clean and tidy entrance” but offered no “eye- catching” or attractive displays. While “shop floor staff were particularly friendly”, not all checked the stock room for items not on shelves. One item showed the incorrect price on our shopper’s receipt, resulting in a more expensive bill.

In the lead for shop floor service was Waitrose Chesham with “plenty of knowledgeable staff to ask for help”. Despite maintaining a “neat entrance”, some trolleys outside displayed “litter in them”. Poor availability and an item left unaccounted for on the receipt let down our shopper’s experience.
