Beauty water brand Sip is being launched in France this month as part of plans to grow the specialist drink into an international £1m player within the year.

The £200,000 UK 'cosmeceutical' brand, which was launched 12 months ago, has secured a listing with the Monoprix chain for its Paris stores and its new boutique mini chain Daily Monop. The deal is the first international listing with a multiple and is hoped to kick off a European expansion, with Germany and Belgium being eyed for 2009. It is also looking at the US market after positive feedback at shows but would need to pursue a licensing route, said director Kate Shapland.

"We believe our Britishness would be very important to marketing the brand in the US. It's very different to anything else out there and consumers are looking for genuine products without the spin," she added.

Sip, which has listings with Waitrose, Selfridges, Harvey Nichols, Whole Foods Market and Eat, will also be stocked by Ocado from this month after sales outperformed targets at Waitrose. A deal to supply the 67-store Coffee Republic chain has also been secured, following new listings with 20 Superquinn stores and 10 Avoca stores in Ireland this month.

New flavours are in the pipeline for next year.
