Energy drink brand Carabao has announced a multimillion-pound global partnership with Chelsea FC ahead of the 2016/17 football season.

Newly launched in the UK from Thailand, the South Asian beverage will be the club’s official training-wear partner over the next three seasons for the first, under-21s and women’s teams.

The CEO of Carabao distributor Intercarabao, Peter Gutierrez, hailed “a landmark moment for the Carabao brand, and one we’re really excited to activate”. The energy drink had “ambitious” plans to expand its global presence, and Chelsea’s worldwide fanbase would “undoubtedly play a big part in helping us achieve that goal”, he said.

Chelsea FC managing director Christian Purslow added: “We are tremendously excited about this opportunity for Carabao. Our training wear is worn six days a week by our players so will offer the brand a tremendously visible and powerful level of exposure.”
