Mark Robson has become the latest director to leave Somerfield following its acquisition by The Co-operative Group in March.
Robson, who is finance director, will leave in the autumn to join confectionery retailer Thorntons as finance director. He replaces John Wall, who joined Thorntons in 2004 and will continue in the role until Robson arrives.
"Robson is an outstanding finance director and he will do a great job for us," CEO Mike Davies told The Grocer. "He has lots of retail experience and we can't wait to have him on board. He will report to me and become an active member of both the plc board and the executive team, which runs the day-to-day business. He will have full responsibility for the financial function from financial reporting to financial planning and all the transactional parts that go with it."
Robson took up the FD role at Somerfield in 2005. He has also been FD for pub and bar chain SFI Holdings and Claire's Accessories and held a number of senior finance positions at Alldays, including group finance director.
His move to Thorntons means he will be reunited with John von Spreckelsen, who was chairman of Somerfield until 2006 and is now chairman of Thorntons.
Meanwhile, Thorntons has created two new business units manufacturing and retail. Managing director of sales and operations Barry Bloomer, who joined Thorntons in July 2005, will lead the manufacturing business unit, while director of retail Lysanne McCallion will head the retail unit.
