European soft fruit growers are trialling new strawberries which could take over from traditional varieties. The Huelva region of Spain is interested in those strawberries developed in California, challenging traditional Camerosa and Diamante. Of these Camino Real has good size and shape, although it is darker, while Ventana has yielded well. Italy, too, is looking for new fruit, growing more Maya, Onda, Patty and Tethis in the northern part of the country while, further south, Paros and Camerosa are gaining favour. France already has limited volumes of Ciflorette, Cigaline and Cireine, supporting Darselect and Gariguette. {{FRESH PRODUCE }}
