Carlsberg is expanding its Northampton site with a 7,000 sq m bottling plant, creating up to 60 new jobs and doubling beer production.

The bottling line, which is the size of a football pitch and will join the three production lines already in operation, will be capable of producing 60,000 bottles of beer every hour and 10 million bottles a year.

Much of the bottling that will take place at the plant is currently performed in France.

The line would be used to bottle brands including Carlsberg, Export, San Miguel, recently launched San Miguel Fresca, and Tuborg. It would provide more flexibility in bottling a range of different-sized SKUs, the company added.

The development, which includes offices and car parking, forms part of the Northampton Enterprise Zone announced last year by government. Construction is due to start in March.
