BrewDog has struck a chilled warehousing deal with XPO Logistics because it has “far outgrown” its shared storage facility.

The contract, which it secured for an undisclosed sum, will see XPO provide temperature-controlled warehousing for BrewDog’s stockholding of craft beer at a 125,000sq ft facility in Mossend, Scotland.

BrewDog, which previously operated on a ‘make it and sell it’ model, had used its own storage and production facilities before appointing XPO to support its “rapid expansion”.

“The team is bringing freshly filled bottles, cans and kegs from our production site to the facility in Mossend, where each batch is carefully chilled to a steady 8C and then assembled for onward distribution to BrewDog customers and our own chain of over 50 pubs across Europe,” said BrewDog customer service and logistics manager Stephen McCrindle.

XPO has also developed a new enterprise system for BrewDog to improve stock management and allow better visibility, faster processing and more accuracy.

“The growth trajectory of BrewDog has been phenomenal,” said XPO logistics unit business director Peter Fuller.

“The business previously operated on a ‘make it and sell it’ model using its own shared storage and production facilities, but it has now far outgrown these. We’re providing BrewDog with the sophisticated storage and supply chain facilities that a fast-growing company of this size needs.”
