Walkers may have bagged the world&'s supply of Sunseed oil for its new-look crisps (The Grocer, 18 February, p40), but there could still be another option for rivals keen to find their own healthy oil.

United Oilseeds has been granted £31,000 by arable levy body the Home Grown Cereals Authority to test and commercialise Natreon, a low-saturates oil made from oilseed rape.

The company said the oil did not require processing to achieve stability in storage or use, which would help to address health concerns regarding trans-fatty acids.

United Oilseeds said it was holding frying trials with a number of leading crisp manufacturers.
