Clydebank Co-op

The store is the first such wholesaler/co-op deal

A jointly branded KeyStore and Clydebank Co-operative Society c-store has opened in Glasgow’s West End.

The 1,200 sq ft store is the result of the first agreement of its kind between a wholesaler and a co-op, announced in June.

It has a full convenience offer including BWS, news, chilled, frozen and fruit & veg, as well as lottery, PayPoint and ATM. It also offers ‘distress delivery’ to residents on the same road.

Clydebank Co-op is usually supplied by The Co-op Group through the CRTG but this store is serviced by KeyStore owner JW Filshill.

“There is no doubt that this is a significant departure from our current supply line of The Co-operative Group - and quite controversial,” said Clydebank Co-op CEO Robert Sider. “However, KeyStore offers a wider product range that is much more suited to convenience trading, and we can also source more Scottish products via Filshill. It’s a better fit for the local area.”

Simon Hannah, MD of JW Filshill, added: “Lots of complementary brands are linking up successfully. There is no reason why complementary brands in convenience can’t do the same.”
